Lake Mission Viejo Yacht Club is proud to host the Leukemia Cup Regatta -- the largest charity event in sailing -- on Saturday, June 12th, 2010. Regatta Co-Chairs are Kathleen Ron and Staff Commodore Ron Meyer.

Festivities begin at noon with race registration. The Regatta is open to all sailors ($15 single-handed boat, $25 double), and lake boats are available for sailors who do not have their own watercraft. To register in advance, email Race Chair Rod Simenz at adrfs@cox.net.

Post-race, the fun continues with a Poker Run! Sign-up at the LMV Administration Dock to receive a dock map and your blank poker “hand” ($10 donation first hand, each additional hand $5). Visit the docks by electric or party boat, where hosts and volunteers will welcome you with appetizers, beverages and cards to add to your “hand.” You may end up a prize winner! Prizes will be given for the high and low hands.

Throughout the day, bid at the Silent Auction of wonderful gift items, donated by generous Orange County businesses. And from 5pm till sunset, join us for a delicious barbecue in the main picnic area! Special guests at the BBQ are scheduled to include our Honorary Skipper and government officials.

The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a national series of thrilling events that combine the joy of boating with the critical task of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. National Regatta Chair is America’s Cup winner, ESPN commentator and leukemia survivor Gary Jobson. Regatta events support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s programs in research, education and patient assistance. This year’s Honorary Skipper is Alexander Pain, a delightful 5-year-old boy who was born at CHOC-Mission Hospital, and was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 3. Today, he is back in school, playing with friends, riding his bike and enjoying life, thanks to everyone who supports LLS through events like this!
