Tesoro's donations helped feed more than 600 families. |
Just when you thought all of today’s teens spent their time either listening to their iPods, cruising down the PCH or hanging out at the mall, guess again.
Yes, there are some dedicated students and teens that are a big part of the Tesoro Family of Schools who are helping others less fortunate fight hunger.
And if you didn’t know, the Tesoro Family of Schools consists of Las Flores Middle and Elementary, Arroyo Vista Middle and Elementary, Tijeras Creek Elementary, Wagon Wheel Elementary, and Chaparral Elementary. All schools eventually feed into Tesoro High School.
The “family’s” PTA recently held a successful 4-hour event called Have a Heart ... Stuff the Bus, that gathered all sorts of wonderful food donations last month at Tesoro High School. The goal was to fill an entire school bus full of food for families in need. The group not only accomplished what it set out to do, but went well over.
In fact, food donations to help more than 600 families with kids within the CAPO Unified School District was gathered and later delivered to Father Serra's Food Pantry in San Juan Capistrano. Did you know that Father Sierra’s according to its website serves about 324 families per week, or the equivalent of 1,296 individuals?
“The majority of families served are non-mobile (walking) lower income families from local neighborhoods, although there is a semi-regular homeless contingent of eight to 10 people. The monthly incomes of these families range from near zero, up to $1,500.00 per month.”
If you want to help, too, you still can by calling Linda Mandala, coordinator for Father Serra's Food Pantry, at 949.874.6403 or send an email to mandala06@yahoo.com. Father Serra's Food pantry is located at 31611 El Camino Real, San Juan Capistrano.
