They’ve shared their talent with the world, they’ve guest starred on Jay Leno, they’re ambassadors for Africa’s most disadvantaged, helpless children, and they’re all under the age of 11. These international superstars makeup the inspirational organization known as The African Children’s Choir, and they’re making a pit-stop in Rancho Santa Margarita this weekend to showcase their talent and share their poignant story.
On Saturday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m., Calvary Chapel Rancho Santa Margarita will open their doors, and their hearts, to the African Children’s Choir and all those interested in viewing the free, guaranteed to be unforgettable, performance.
The kids, ages 7 to 11, have been using their voice to change the future of Africa for over 25 years. In 1984, human activist Ray Barnett was asked to aid the thousands of children left homeless and starving due to the gruesome aftermath of Uganda’s civil war. Upon hearing the angelic voice of a small African boy, Barnett decided to take Uganda’s most destitute children, form a trained choir, and tour international churches, hoping to receive enough donations to eventually provide these once suffering children an education and overall better lifestyle. His motto? “In order to change Africa, we need to change its children, by providing them with the opportunities they need to succeed.”
And that he did. Over 25 years later, the original members of the choir have gone on to receive Master’s and Doctorate degrees in HIV Management, International Relations, Medicine, Public Policy, and Computer Software Management (to name a few.)
Calvary Chapel RSM invites everyone to come enjoy these admirable children and acknowledge their quest to obtaining a healthy life. Don’t miss this amazing, no cost experience. Visit CCRSM at 30615 Avenida Las Flores, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688, or call 949.858.6170 for more information.
