Come February 25, six grade male students of Mission Hills Christian School in Rancho Santa Margarita will be accompanied by their dads to learn about the birds and bees.
According to the Mission Hills Community Church’s Pastor of Congregation Care, Mike Foell, who is also an eighth grade Bible teacher at Mission Hills Christian School, “We will be talking about cognitive emotional changes of puberty.”
Dubbed the “Sixth Grade Father/Son Quest,” Foell will be speaking at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Mission Hills Community Church located at 29582 Aventura Rancho Santa Margarita. The event is free and will be about 45 minutes.
As a ministry of Mission Hills Community Church, a nondenominational fellowship, “the school provides a program that balances the academic, spiritual, physical, and social needs of children from junior kindergarten through eighth grade.”
Each year, the school holds the event to help young men better learn about their coming of age. Earlier this month, the fifth grade male students and their dads attended a similar talk which attracted more than 30 people and the topic was about physical changes.
“The events usually go over very well,” Foell says. “I talk for some of the time and then there is interaction between the sons and the dads.”
In April, there will be a talk for seventh graders followed by an event for eighth graders in May.
“It’s all part of our quest to provide cohesive sex education to our students,” Foell explained.
