Did You Know? Toll Road's "Bermuda Triangle" Effect

Drivers can now enjoy a static-free, hands-free convo.

Cell phone users might be a little happier thanks to the completion of four new cell towers on the SR 241 Toll Road.

It became official on Nov. 30 when The Toll Roads completed these towers along the SR 241 from Irvine to the 91 Freeway. Cell service equipment is currently being installed by national providers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. So, get ready for clearer and better reception.

“Providing enhanced cell phone coverage and service on the 241 Toll Road was important to us because so many drivers use their hands-free devices while driving and, especially, because in times of emergency a cell phone can be a life line,” said Peter Herzog, chairman of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency. “Seeing customers driving along and talking, uninterrupted on their hands-free device is a sight that we are excited about.”

Started in June, partners for the project are Sprint and Mobilitie (a telecommunications infrastructure company), the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency and Caltrans with Metro PCS entering the picture in 2010.

These aren’t any tall, ugly cell towers either, in fact you might not even see them, since they were designed that way. Be sure to wear your phone piece or utilize Bluetooth when in your car.
