Sinkway incorporates fun in her art lessons. |
Teddi Sinkway is helping local kids turn their talents into great art in Ladera Ranch.
The 26-year-old, who is also going to school to become a veterinarian technician, works Thursday through Saturday cocktailing at BeachFire in Ladera Ranch where she teaches Kids Create with Teddi at the restaurant.
They meet once a month usually the week before the major holiday of that month. The next two are on November 18 and December 16 at BeachFire in Ladera Ranch from 4: 00 p.m. to 6: 00 p.m.
“I do not have any teaching credentials, nor do I call myself an artist, but I can provide a fun and safe atmosphere at BeachFire outside of the home or school where children can express themselves making crafts and learning about art while having fun,” she says.
Kids Create with Teddi, lets children from around Orange County express themselves without being graded while letting them make new friends outside of the neighborhood and school. The cost to participate is $15.00 per child which includes a children’s meal.
Sinkway says she had big dreams as a kid to either be an exotic animal veterinarian, an equine veterinarian, or begin a program to spare from euthanasia, elderly and abused animals that cannot be adopted. She did attend the Academy of Art College in San Francisco right out of high school.
“I have always loved art. While working in BeachFire’s unique and artistic atmosphere, I have met so many children who admired the paintings and works of art as well as their parents, inspiring me to take a time out for them to be able to see it as well,” she says.
As for the class she says watching a child explore his or her own imagination unhindered, is a truly amazing thing to witness.

“With Kids Create with Teddi, I get to hold all of their hands while I open their eyes to art and creating,” she says. “Watching how truly creative kids can be with the right tools and opportunities is thrilling, challenging, stressful, busy, and the most rewarding thing I could ever imagine doing.”
Her own favorite artists include: Michael Donnellan, M.C. Escher, Ansel Adams and Picasso. In the end, she spends 15 hours a week preparing for the next Kids Create.
She recently started her own business, too, called Birds Eye View, making and selling feather accessories, in between going to school.
For reservations for the art class, call BeachFire at 949.542.7700. Space is limited so call ahead as there is only space for 30 children per month.
