Many members of the band, Velvet Revolver, call RSM home. |
Besides the Real Housewives of Orange County, which is mostly filmed in Rancho Santa Margarita rather than Coto de Caza, did you know there are some other notable residents who are linked to this apparently coveted city?
For example, did you know that among the almost 50,000 people who call RSM home:
- Olympic Gold Medalist, Joy Fawcett is among them? Fawcett’s many credits include 1996 Olympic gold medalist, 2000 Olympic silver medalist and 2004 Olympic gold medalist. She was a member of 1991 and 1999 Women's World Cup Champion teams and the 1995 and 2003 bronze medal winning teams.
- Also on the list is New York Times best selling author, Martin Dugard, who penned such books as Changing Lance, Into Africa and Surviving the Toughest Race on Earth. An adventurer, too, his Web site says: “He has completed the Raid Gauloises adventure race, flown around the world at twice the speed of sound (New York-New York in 31 hours 28 minutes), and traced Henry Morton Stanley's path across Africa. Look for his new motion picture called Warrior in 2001.
- Carson Palmer, a two-time pro bowler winner and an NFL quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, once played for the University of Southern California and won the Heisman Trophy in 2002. Palmer started out playing for Santa Margarita Catholic High School.
- Another sports star with a link to RSM is Jonathon Blum, who was a first-round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2007. He was an avid surfer who grew-up in RSM.
- Musicians such as Chantelle Paige, a member of the band Flipsyde, have RSM links. The band’s song “Someday,” was featured at the 2006 Winter Games. In addition, some members of the band Velvet Revolver also have roots in RSM. One well known member of the band, Slash, the former lead guitarist for the band Guns ‘N Roses, has ties to Rancho Santa Margarita.
