Get ready to groove, Orange County, because some of the greatest entertainment geniuses of rock music’s past are about to grace your backyards with their melodious talent. The only catch is that your backyard must be located somewhere in Orange County, and if you are reading this, chances are it is.

The tranquil nights of summer have RSVP’d to O.C.’s guest list and aside from barbeques, pools and hammock sleeping, there is only one other aspect absent from our summer itinerary: concerts in the park.

While Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and The Stones were all preoccupied with a little thing called a world tour, California’s best county got the next best thing—their tribute bands (not to be confused with tacky impersonators).

Throughout the months of July and August, bands that love these bands and live for their oldie but goodie hits will be playing in Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, Laguna Niguel, Garden Grove and Tustin.

Just last Sunday, July 12, Rancho Santa Margarita tripped back to 1975 as The Premier Tribute to the Boss rocked City Hall’s Central Park as a homage to Springsteen’s recent release of his chart topping album, “Born to Run”. However, if word of Rancho’s concerts in the park failed to circulate and left you dancing in the dark this weekend, don’t worry because there is more music to be heard this weekend.

Hello Cleveland—an eccentrically animated rock and dance band—is bringing the party to the same park from 6pm to 9pm on July 19. Every era will be vivaciously rekindled as Cleveland performs hits from the disco scene of the 70’s, to the electronica era of the 80’s, to the alternative age of today’s rock.

And for all you Laguna Niguel rock-loving residents, turn this potentially quiet Friday into a classic-rock jam session with the bluesy band, The Answer. Voted best new band in 2005 by Classic Rock Magazine, The Answer has toured with hard-rock band ACDC, opened for Aerosmith and played alongside Free and Bad Company. And as if that wasn’t enough to get you to go see this musically gifted group famous for their instrumental aptitude, guitar icon, Jimmy Page, is one of The Answer’s biggest fans. So for a guaranteed good time this weekend, show up at Laguna Niguel’s Crown Valley Park at 6:30pm sharp—leather and bandannas optional.

Orange County’s swing and jazz fans will be happy to hear that Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers are playing live in San Clemente on Thursday, July 30. Rod Piazza and his crew will be playing on the San Clemente Pier and with a 7pm beach backdrop sunset and bluesy melodies to move your soul, this concert is bound to give your weekend a jumpstart.

If you love Cash, have a thing for Beatles, or like to Journey, head up to Garden Grove and Tustin to hear these bands' greatest hits. On Wednesday, July 15, a Johnny Cash tribute band will perform at 6pm in Tustin’s Peppertree Park. A tribute to the band that doesn’t stop believing will kick off at 6:30pm on July 16 and The Beatles’ greatest hits will be reincarnated in the Magical Mystery Tour on July 23—both at Eastgate Park.

Before concerts in the park, this season was just a guilt-free excuse to eat hot dogs and popsicles, but thanks to Orange County’s modernized version of a mini-Woodstock, summer nights have officially begun.
