Rancho Santa Margarita based Melissa Data has recently launched a new business that reduces the need for printing direct mail coupon advertising, which saves trees, saves space in landfills, helps local residents save money and helps local businesses attract new customers.
When asked how the concept came about, Ray Melissa, President of Melissa Data, had this to say. “It seems that everyone is talking about ways to help the environment. They’re looking to go green. So some of us here put our heads together and came up with a concept we call News-n-Coupons. It’s great for businesses, consumers and those with environmental concerns.
The basic premise is to use technology (email) to reduce the need for natural resources associated with the production of direct mail related to coupon advertising.
The beauty of this concept is that the people in Rancho Santa Margarita can save money using the discount coupons, local businesses can generate additional sales by attracting new customers, and there is no wasted paper clogging our landfills. Technology to the rescue… everyone wins.
Another benefit is the sense of community that comes with the articles centered around what’s happening in Rancho Santa Margarita. Readers can keep up with local happenings as well as events that affect everyone. It’s all about RSM all of the time.
The first issue was distributed on March 12, and other issues follow on a weekly basis.
Nicole Melissa, current editor of News-n-Coupons, encourages people to get involved in the local newsletter and contribute: "We are always looking for people to submit articles to our newsletter, or to advertise. So if you are interested in journalism and know the community well, or you have a local business, we'd love to have you in our newsletter."
